Each Quarter is divided into two online sessions, each 5½ weeks in length, which run consecutively (one right after the other).
If you are interested in taking online classes, here are a few things that you need to know about them:
- Self-starters who are motivated to learn on their own do best online.
- Online classes are taught with facilitators overseeing the class however; the student is responsible for completing the work on their own.
-
Your facilitator as well as your classmates may be anywhere in the nation, or even the world.
-
Online classes are 1 session (5 ½ weeks) long, instead of 11 weeks…however you will still do 11 weeks worth in that time.
- Online classes will take approximately 10-15 hours worth of work each week.
- You must be willing and able to actively participate in class A MINIMUM of 4 out of 7 days per week, if not more. Which 4 days are up to you, however assignments still have due dates that must be met regardless of whether or not it is your chosen day off.
- Online classes are not easier than onsite courses, in fact they are more challenging because they are shorter and require a larger time commitment while they are in progress.
- The online classes do have an additional $100 technical fee attached to them – this fee does not go to Ai, it goes to eCollege, the company that runs our site. Depending on your Financial Aid, this fee might be rolled into your loans… you would need to talk to your loan officer regarding the specifics.
- Classes are graded partially for participation (logging in and posting work on time) and partially for progress in the subject matter.
- Your online advocate will communicate with you through email. Your facilitator will converse with you in your online classroom and be email. Please be sure your email account you are using for your online class is operable and check it often.
- You must have the required software and hardware installed on your computer for the specific classes you wish to take by the first day of classes. You can check this in the link included on the Available Courses link on this website.
- Books are ordered online and must be ordered with a credit card. Vouchers are NOT accepted. Books are required for the first day of classes.
- If you are a new online student and you do not take the online orientation by the orientation deadline, you will be removed from your online classes.
- Online courses are identified on your schedule with the following section codes and times in your registration window or registration schedule.
- 1st session (1st half of quarter) Sections UA-WZ
- 2nd session (2nd half of quarter) Sections XA-ZZ
- Class times are listed as Saturday at 8 a.m.
- NO ON SITE classes have the above designations
- The Add/Drop week is the same for both sessions of the online class. Students can ONLY make changes to their schedules the first week of the quarter. Even though a second session online class has not begun or is in the first week of the session, that class cannot be dropped after add/drop week. If you drop your online class after that date, you will be charged fully for your online class and receive a W or WF grade, depending on when you dropped the class.
